This it the pinhole camera Kurt and I constructed. It is made from 1/2 inch Poplar wood.
Since I didn't feel like doing a dark room to develop photos, we decided on using a Polaroid 545 professional back for the camera. The box was built so that the Polaroid back slides easily into a U channel. The advantage of the Polaroid back is that it allows me to take several pictures easily. The film is not cheap however, costing about $2.00 per picture.
The camera's pinhole is about 8 inches from the film, for an F-stop of about 350. The inside of the box is about 5.5 x 4.5 inches (slightly larger then the area of the Polaroid Film). The exterior dimensions are approx. 6.5 x 5.5 x 9.5 inches.
All the peices of wood were glued into place, and the edges rounded over, and sanded to give a smoother look to the camera.
The shutter is a thin (about 1/4 inch) thick piece of poplar wood with felt glued to the back side for smoother gliding and a tighter seal. A 1/2 inch hole is drilled in the front of the camera and the brass shim with the pinhole is attached to the inside of the camera, with the pinhole centered in the larger hole.
